The Story Behind This Rug
Sage green is a rare transitional shade created by layering indigo and yellow plant dyes; it shifts to gray in the light and green in the shade. The clusters of flowers continue Sultanabad’s airy use of open space.
Why Choose a One-of-a-Kind Handwoven Afghan Rug
- One of a kind: There is only one of this rug; the same knotting rhythm and dye batch can never be replicated.
- Durability of plant-based dyes: Unlike synthetic aniline dyes, root dyes do not fade – they simply soften over time.
- Ghazni wool: Long-staple, lanolin-rich wool from high-altitude sheep offers natural stain resistance and a silky sheen.
- Asymmetrical Persian knot: Finer detail resolution and sharper motif edges than the Turkish (Gördes) knot.
- Investment value: Genuine handwoven rugs dyed with plant-based dyes gain value over generations of use.
Color and Pattern
Clusters of madder-red, cinnamon, and cream flowers are scattered in a free-flowing rhythm across the smoky sage ground, while a chain of miniature rosettes winds around the narrow border. It creates a sophisticated whole with linen, wood, and brass accents.
Care Recommendations
- Vacuum on a low setting with a brushless vacuum attachment.
- Blot spills immediately with a white cotton cloth; do not rub.
- Rotate 180° every 6 months to distribute sunlight and foot traffic evenly.
- Leave wet cleaning to a rug cleaner specializing in plant-based dyes.
Afghan handwoven rugs are not "manufactured" but "woven." This piece is no exception; it will be sold only once, and no other home will have an identical one.

Protect Its Elegance
To preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven creations made with natural fibers—which add value to your living space—for generations, a careful care routine is essential.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid spills, timing is critical. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, blot the liquid gently from the surface without rubbing. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the shape of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use a vacuum cleaner with low suction. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance how natural yarns react to light and prevent uneven changes in color (fading), we recommend rotating your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Fine textures such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For a thorough clean, seek help only from professional rug care centers specializing in natural fibers.
Washing Instructions
Due to their construction, the exceptional pieces in Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing. (Only our specific models explicitly marked “Washable” in their names can be washed in household machines on a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
