The Shah Abbas pattern is a classic Persian iconography matured in Safavid palace workshops; large palmettes and lotus flowers are connected with arabesque branches into a garden composition. In the 19th century, Ziegler & Co adapted this tradition to the scale of Western salons. Afghan masters continue the composition with Ghazni wool and root dyes.
