Göbeklitepe Series 100% New Zealand Wool Handwoven Black-Loom Anatolian Rug – Burgundy-Purple
The Göbeklitepe Series consists of high-quality wool rugs designed with inspiration from Anatolia's rich heritage of motifs and produced entirely by hand. Woven on a black loom using 100% New Zealand wool, this special rug stands out with both its durability and authentic appearance. Its 8 mm pile height provides a soft and comfortable surface, while the fringed edge finish adds an elegant detail. With 168,000 knots and a weight of 2,850 g/m², it offers a sturdy and long-lasting weave. This variant features a distressed (vintage) look, highlighted by a densely woven Anatolian pattern combining burgundy and purple tones.
What Is New Zealand Wool?
New Zealand wool is considered one of the highest-quality wools in the world thanks to its natural whiteness, softness, and long fibers. Due to its long and flexible fibers, the rug maintains its shape and fullness even under heavy use; natural wool fibers help regulate moisture, adding a warm and healthy feel to the space. The Göbeklitepe Series is handwoven on a black loom using Wools of New Zealand-certified wool. For more information about our certifications, please visit our sustainability and certifications page.
The Inspiration Behind the Göbeklitepe Series: Anatolian Heritage
Göbeklitepe is a deep-rooted cultural heritage site in Anatolia, located in Şanlıurfa, dating back approximately 12,000 years and considered one of the oldest known temple sites in human history. The Göbeklitepe Series draws inspiration from this ancient heritage and the rich motifs of the Anatolian rug-making tradition; by bringing medallions, borders, and traditional geometric patterns together with a modern interpretation, it brings an authentic spirit to living spaces. Each color reflects a different pattern from the Anatolian weaving tradition with its own distinctive character.

Protect Your Rug’s Elegance
A careful care routine should be adopted to preserve the original splendor and silky texture of Carpetdocia’s handwoven, natural-fiber creations—pieces that add value to your living space—for generations to come.
Immediate Action and Liquid Spills
When a liquid is spilled, timing is the most critical factor. Using a clean, slightly damp cloth, remove the liquid from the surface by gently blotting only—never rub. Always work in the direction of the rug’s pile (the natural direction in which the fibers lie). Rubbing can damage the structure of delicate fibers such as TENCEL™ and viscose. If in doubt, stop immediately.
Routine Care and Light Balance
For your weekly cleaning routine, always use vacuum cleaners with low suction power. High-powered upright vacuums and stiff brushes can damage the natural structure of handwoven yarns. To balance the natural fibers’ reaction to light and prevent uneven color changes (fading), we recommend changing the direction of your rug every 2 to 6 months.
Expert Care (Professional Cleaning)
Delicate materials such as handwoven fibers, TENCEL™, viscose, and New Zealand wool should not come into contact with household chemical cleaners. These products can irreversibly damage the rug’s silky sheen and structural integrity. For deep cleaning, seek assistance only from professional rug-care centers specializing in natural fibers.
Washing Instructions
The delicate pieces in the Carpetdocia collections are not suitable for machine washing due to their construction. (Only specific models clearly marked “Washable” in their names may be washed in household machines using a low-temperature, delicate cycle.)
